Overview
Digital photography has always been an important part of dermatologic training but has come even more to the forefront with the rise of teledermatology. There is a historical bias in color photography to optimize image capture for fairer skin tones and with increased emphasis on accurate images to guide diagnosis and treatment, the shortcomings of digital photography in capturing images in skin of color are more pronounced. This learning module will introduce techniques to optimize image capture in clinical settings, including specific techniques to aid in photography of skin of color.
Target Audience
Dermatologists and others involved in the delivery of dermatologic care.
Learning Objectives
Following participation in this activity, the learner should be able to:
- Identify factors which may lead to good and poor image capture
- Determine ideal approaches to photographing skin of color
- Utilize digital photography to capture high-quality, accurate clinical images across all patient types
